Dr. Alkarim Karmali – MB, ChB, M.R.C.G.P. (UK), L.M.C.C. – graduated from Sheffield Medical School, in Britain in 1981. He completed a three-year General Practice residency programme in Barnsley North Yorkshire and Barnet General Hospital, North London.

Dr. Karmali immigrated to Canada in 1986 and practiced in the rural area of Fraser Canyon in a small town – Lytton B.C. for 2.5 years, then moved his practice to Maple Ridge in late 1988. Over the last 27 years in Maple Ridge, his practice has included a variety patient demographic, but he has a particular interest in seniors and those with comorbidity.

Dr. Karmali has been the continuing medical education coordinator, organizing professional development for local physicians for over 20 years. Currently he mentors Nurse Practitioners in training and provides preceptorship for physicians.

Dr. Karmali was attracted to the friendly community, hospital and the semi-rural setting with accessibility to urban amenities. He and his family own a small hobby farm and raise chickens. His family can be found at the farmers market on Saturdays selling eggs from the farm.

Dr. Karmali is fluent in English, Kutchi, and Gujarati and functional in Hindi and Punjabi.
